Sun Protection

In honour of Melanoma awareness day (May 2nd)- it is important that we here at Renew remind and educate our community on the importance of sun care and sun protection.

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that develops in the cells that produce melanin. One of the easiest and most effective ways to lower your risk of Melanoma is to protect and limit your exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays.

Additional information on Melanoma and the Melanoma Foundation can be found here.

Skincare and sun protection should be an integral and intertwined part of your skincare regimen; especially, for those with darker skin complexion, who might be under the false assumption that their skin is somehow protected from sun damage. Although, melanin can be somewhat of a natural barrier, additional sun protection is necessary.  The best way to protect your skin naturally is to ultimately block sun damage by avoiding intense sun exposure, wearing sunscreen, and wearing protective clothing. Now, you might assume that this only means avoiding the sun on “sunny” days or in the warmer months of the year. The truth is that UV rays are always present, no matter what time of the year it is, your skin is susceptible to sun damage. That is why it is crucial to wear sunscreen and use products with SPF daily.

Anti-Ageing Benefits

As we naturally age, our body will produce less collagen. As this happens our skin will become thinner, drier, and less elastic over time.  As a result, wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of ageing are more likely to be seen on our skin. Wearing sunscreen can help slow down the ageing process in a very natural way.

Hyperpigmentation

Fading dark spots can be difficult to navigate. No matter what serums or other medical treatments you get done, nothing quite seems to work. The most effective and natural way to fade your hyperpigmentation is to protect your skin from sun damage.  Even when you are indoors, wearing SPF and sun protection will help to naturally fade your dark spots over time.

Sun Protection at Renew x Alumier

The best way to implement sunscreen into your skincare regime is to use protection with SPF products that can double as other parts of your everyday regimen. For instance, there are SPF products that double as tinted moisture, to give you that every coverage and glow. Here at renew, we offer Alumier products that vary in SPF protection and are all: dye, paraben, sulfate, phthalate, fragrance, animal cruelty, and chemical filter free.

Educate Your Loved Ones

In addition, to educating yourself on the importance of sun protection you should also educate those around you.  With Mother’s Day coming up, we can educate our mothers and motherly figures in our lives. So, this Mother’s Day let us show those we love how much we care for them by educating them on skin protection.

So, remember starting new habits just take consistency and time. Go and apply that sunscreen on now and begin your sun-protecting regimen.
